Levi Cruz is a Mexican American student at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. Born and raised in Clinton, NC, he has been inspired by the self-sacrifice of his hometown Hispanic community and their focus on success across generations. He has involved himself in his community as a musician for his local church and through working agricultural jobs. He strives to improve his community by identifying prevalent issues and working towards achievable goals, such as improving health literacy in Hispanic communities. As a student in NCSSM's Research in Biology program, he has found his passion in biology by identifying a specific question that he felt would leave an impact when solved. He hopes to pursue a career as a physician to improve human health by tracing problems to their roots and working his way up. He plans on majoring in biology at Yale University as a Questbridge Scholar.
