From Charlotte, North Carolina, Kairy Bautista is a first-generation college student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill double majoring in Economics and Philosophy with a minor in Public Policy. Being the eldest child of immigrant parents from Honduras and El Salvador, she has seen first hand the hardships of navigating the U.S. financial system and the barriers immigrant families face when seeking and building financial security. As she looks towards her future career, Kairy is determined to use her educational opportunities to work towards remedying social and systematic discrimination and disadvantages against Latinx and immigrant communities. After receiving her degree, she aspires to become an immigration attorney, in addition to providing financial consulting services to her local immigrant community in Charlotte.
