Somos Carolina Intern

Daphne Martinez-Cruz (She/Ella) is currently a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a Biology major on the Pre-Physician Assistant path with a minor in education. She is the founder of Nuestro Futuro, which is an organization that serves first-generation low-income (FGLI) High School students with the transition to college by aiding with scholarship and college applications. At UNC, she is a mentor in the Minority Advising Program, and is a member of Hearts for Homeless Carolina and HYPE! She works as a Certified Nurse Aide at CaroMont Health on COVID cohort units. In the future, she plans to open a low-cost health clinic and one day combine her love for education and medicine to teach in underserved communities. She will be working in curriculum aspects of Somos and is excited to continue growing alongside it. Daphne is thrilled to be working with the LatinxEd Familia this semester!
