Somos Carolina Program Manager
José Cisneros immigrated to the United States from México and grew up in Snow Hill, NC. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Golden Door and Carolina Scholar, where he majored in History and minored in Education as a first-generation student. After UNC, he attended graduate school at the University of Notre Dame as an ACE Teaching Fellow. As an ACE teacher, he completed a Master of Education degree and taught Spanish and Social Studies at Santa Clara Catholic Academy in Dallas, TX. In his current role as the Somos Carolina Program Manager, he works with Latinx youth to foster the self-efficacy and support network necessary to flourish as scholars and civic leaders in their communities and future college campuses. His experience as an undocumented immigrant in rural NC and his family's legacy of community activism fuel his passion to serve and advocate for the Latinx community through Education. During his free time, he enjoys food, dance, nature, and travel. José is stoked to be able to serve the North Carolina immigrant and Latinx community with LatinxEd and Somos Carolina!
