Wendolyn Fernandez

Site Director at UrbanPromise

Wendolyn discovered her passion for working with children as an elementary school teacher where she spent 6 years in the classroom. She went on to work as an Administrator at one of the largest and highest performing public high schools in NC. She developed a passion for leading social justice work and working with marginalized groups, creating social justice lessons for students to give the students more exposure to other cultures, identifies, and their respective challenges. An advisor for a leadership club at the high school designed to support African American and Latina female students, she recognized a need to lead older BIPOC students in ways that could assist them in their journey into adulthood. She currently serves as a site director for UrbanPromise, a local non-profit that provides free after-school and summer programming in low income communities and employs high school students to help empower them with leadership skills and college guidance.
