Starting her teaching career as a 6th grade teacher, Vanessa Garcia has always had a passion for education and working with students. She graduated from UNC-Wilmington (Go Seahawks!) in 2015 with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She just completed her 8th year teaching and first year as a Juntos Coordinator! Her dedication to helping students achieve their educational goals has grown throughout different experiences. A goal she has set for herself is to grow her leadership skills. She has been able work towards this goal with her participation in the Rural Teacher Leader Network group and also through her coordinator role in the Juntos program. Vanessa came across this fellowship on social media and it wasn’t until she received the email that she had been nominated that gave her the push to apply. She hopes to gain lots of skills and meet other individuals with similar interests and goals.
