Stefanía Arteaga is an organizer and strategist who has played a crucial role in advancing immigrants’ rights organizing in North Carolina. She has co-founded the grassroots immigrants rights, group Comunidad Colectiva and the Carolina Migrant Network. For years she has worked to push back the tide of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and local law enforcement collaboration to stop the deportation pipeline. Stefania is originally from San Salvador, El Salvador but has lived in North Carolina the majority of her life and considers herself a Southerner. She spent years organizing with undocumented students, deportation defense campaigns, and toward the successful end of 287(g) in Mecklenburg County, NC. She was a protagonist in the Netflix docu-series Immigration Nation which aired in 2020.
