Sandra Lopez is the Multilingual Learner Lead Teacher of the Public Schools of Robeson County in Lumberton, NC. Originally from Colombia, a country with sociable and open-minded people, she came to USA as a Spanish teacher with the Visiting International Faculty organization currently known as Participate Learning. She has been a foreign language teacher for thirteen years in her native country, and for fourteen more years, she has been teaching English as a Second Language. More recently, she took the role of PSRC Multilingual Learner Lead Teacher, a position that has allowed her to advocate for a large population of learners who speak a language other than English. With her office team, Sandra has led parent engagement sessions and academic activities to promote language and content development concurrently. Her intention to be part of LatinxEd is to empower herself with the experience and knowledge of other members and therefore, become an active participant in the social change needed for her community of non-English speakers to be successful.
