Renee Ortiz is a proud "Nuyorican" whose career spans more than 20 years of public service. She obtained both her BA in Political Science and her MA in Human Resource Administration from Stony Brook University. Prior to relocating to North Carolina in 2019, she held various roles in New York State government, Higher Education and nonprofit leadership. The majority of her career has focused on empowering historically marginalized communities and advancing educational equity. One of her proudest accomplishments was the establishment of a scholarship for undocumented students, the first of its kind, at Suffolk County Community College in New York. Upon relocating to North Carolina, Renee spent 3 years working for Teach for America. First, as a Senior Managing Director on their Eastern North Carolina regional team and finally as a Managing Director with their National Development Team. In June of 2022, Renee began working with The Hunt Institute as their Director of National Programs, where she will once again be able to impact education policy on both a local and national level.
