Monica Velazquez was born in Florida, but raised in North Carolina. Her mother is from Guatemala and her dad is from Mexico. She is a senior majoring in Education at St. Andrews University and a former transfer student from Central Carolina Community College in Sanford, NC. She works as a first grade Spanish teacher assistant at Robbins Elementary School. Robbins Elementary School has a dual language program where students learn both English and Spanish where Monica is able to assist in her role. She is also a Sunday school teacher at her church. Her favorite foods are enchiladas and pizza and her hobbies are listening to music, watching soccer, and spending time with my family. She was part of the first Somos Carolina instructor cohort and she enjoyed working with middle school students and learning about their cultures.
