2024 Z. Smith Reynolds Intern

Luisa was born and raised in Veinticuatro de Mayo, Ecuador, and moved to Charlotte, NC, in 2015. Currently, she resides in Raleigh, NC studying Psychology and Social Work at North Carolina State University. She is a first-generation college student who holds a great passion for the fields of education, mental health, and health care. After she graduates, she would like to pursue a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Presently, she is an active member of an academic sorority, Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated that actively promotes educational activities aimed towards academic success across the campus community. Additionally, she is a Program Assistant for Juntos, a nonprofit organization that helps latine youth and their families gain the knowledge and skills they need to bridge the gap between high school and higher education. Last year, she served as a team captain for Juntos Summer Academy where she provided leadership and mentorship to middle school and high school students throughout their week-long visit at NC State.  Driven by her belief in equitable access to academic success for all students, Luisa is happy to be working for LatinxEd, aligning with her values and passions. She is excited to serve this summer as a Community Outreach Intern through the Z. Smith Reynolds Non-Profit Internship Program.
