Lisbeth Hickey

Lisbeth Hickey is the Education Department Manager at El Centro Hispano with 15 years of experience in education. Her leadership has expanded educational opportunities and spaces for the Hispanic/Latinx community, from childhood to adulthood. She is dedicated to working with diverse cultures and understands the challenges faced by marginalized populations, particularly families and women dealing with poverty, trauma, and homelessness. Lisbeth is passionate about using education to break the cycle of poverty and is sensitive to students' backgrounds and needs in elementary school. Apart from her role at El Centro Hispano, she serves as a member of Mi Escuelita Spanish Immersion Preschool and volunteers in various community roles, including member of the Durham Early Childhood Homelessness Task Force, the Women Relief Society and youth counseling in her church. Lisbeth holds a bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from Escuela Colombiana de Rehabilitacion in Bogota, Colombia, and previously worked as a Physical Therapist in Florida.
