Leslie Hernandez

John M. Belk Impact Fellow

Leslie Hernandez — a proud Mexican-American is one of the 15 John M. Belk fellows chosen to work with LatinxEd for the 2021-2022 academic year. Through her roles, Leslie focuses on civic development, community engagement and empowering the Latinx community. She is in her second year at UNCG, majoring in Political Science to bring civil and humanitarian reformation to her community and to represent the Latinx community. Her purpose for serving as a Democracy Fellow with UNCG’s OLCE was to spread knowledge and to address any confusion about voting, especially for first-time voters. She recently served as a Community Outreach Intern for the non-profit organization, LATINX L.I.F.E., where she created bilingual mental health resources within the counties of Guilford, Alamance and Rockingham and also drew more cultural awareness on the national climate issue within the Latinx community. When Leslie is not busy advocating for her community, she enjoys Netflix, plays soccer and spends quality time with her loved ones.
