Katrina Pinales Ortiz

Student at Southern Lee High School

Katrina Pinales is a 17-year-old teenager. She was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She migrated to the U.S at the age of 12 years old. The whole experience was challenging for her, including learning the language, and interacting with new people and a new culture. Katrina decided to join Fellowship to get out of her comfort zone by learning new skills such as communicating and being a leader. Katrina feels the need to learn how to become a leader because she wants to be a nurse. As the youngest in her family, her older sister has inspired her to pursue a career in nursing. Katrina sees nursing as an opportunity to demonstrate her leadership by guiding and supporting others. To Katrina, "leadership" also means respect and care. Katrina thinks that when you are a leader you are highly dependent, and you inspire others to become future leaders as well.
