Student at Northern High School
Kaila was born in North Carolina and her family is from Mexico. She has always made her heritage an important part of herself and something she can share with others. When she was younger, she started being a leader in her community. A new girl came in her first grade class and she only spoke Spanish. For Kaila, she always spoke Spanish at home so she did her best to translate for the girl. Later on, the student said things on her own and next year she could speak English pretty well. They became friends from that, and it showed her that by helping someone a little, they’ll push themselves the rest of the way to learn. Kaila think that is what everyone needs, especially in her community. She thinks there is a lot of people who are actively pushing others to do their best, and she thinks she can be part of that movement so other kids like herself can know of more opportunities.
