A son of Salvadoran and Guatemalan immigrants, Juan Castro grew up in High Point, North Carolina. He is a undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he is pursuing a degree in Sociology and Psychology with a minor in Medical Anthropology. Juan is a champion for accessible and affordable healthcare in the United States for communities of color and low-income individuals. In particular, he wants to take up the fight for greater access for mental health services and access to affordable healthcare for immigrant families. He believes every individual in the United States should have access to necessary healthcare, medication, and treatment options for terminal illnesses; without consideration of legal status. This belief motivates him in his educational journey as Juan plans to obtain a Masters in Public Health and eventually a PhD in Health Policy Management, in which he hopes to work on health policy on the federal level.
