Born and raised in Sanford, Jasmine Pineda is the daughter of immigrants from El Salvador and Guatemala. A senior at Southern Lee High School, she often volunteers in community events, such as Relay for Life, The Lions Club, and the community hospital. Jasmine believes that everyone should have equal rights and families and communities should be allowed to stay together. Passionate about the treatment of immigrants and family separation, Jasmine often volunteers at community events to raise awareness of pressing issues, including interpreting information for community members at risk. She hopes to major in political science or psychology at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, and aspires to become an immigration lawyer to help the Latinx community and keep families together.
