Evelin Patricio Zuluaga

Student at Broughton Magnet High School

Evelin Patricio Zuluaga is a rising senior at Broughton High School located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Her family is from a small pueblo in Michoacán, Mexico and a part of the Purépecha tribe. She loves to play various instruments and takes part in a myriad of service opportunities, but her greatest passion is learning. Evelin began her leadership journey as a member of the Freshmen Student Council of Broughton, and has, throughout the years, involved herself greatly in her community. She is the Spanish Club President, a counselor for a program known as CAPS Camp, and a part of the Sophomore, Junior, and Senior Executive Cabinet of her school. Outside of school, Evelin continues her love for music as the Co-director of two Hispanic Choirs. All of the leadership lessons she has learned, with the help of her community, led her to apply for the LatinxEd Fellowship. Evelin applied as a form of giving back to her community. For all the opportunities it has given to her, what better way to say thank you than to be a voice for education equity. Her goal is to learn from this fellowship and bring back valuable lessons to her educational environment. All to help diminish the linguistic barriers, discrimination and the misunderstandings constantly put against the Latinx community.
