As a first-generation Mexican American, Esmerelda has always had a passion for psychology and a desire to make a positive impact on her community. Growing up in a multicultural household, she developed a deep understanding and appreciation for different perspectives and the importance of mental health. In high school, she excelled academically and was actively involved in various leadership roles. She served as the president of the school's psychology club, where she organized events to raise awareness about mental health issues. This experience further solidified her interest in psychology and her commitment to advocating for mental wellness. She applied to the fellowship because she saw it as an opportunity to further develop her leadership skills and expand her knowledge in the field of psychology. She is passionate about addressing the mental health disparities that exist in underserved communities, particularly among immigrant populations. She believes that by participating in the fellowship, she will gain invaluable insights and tools to create meaningful change in her community.
