Erik Modesto Reyes

Student at North Carolina State University

Erik Modesto Reyes is a first-generation college student at North Carolina State University, pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering. He is from Garner, North Carolina, and is the eldest son of a Mexican immigrant family from La Ciudad de México and Hidalgo. Erik learned the importance of advocating for changes within the American education system, seeking opportunities for Latinx students, and embracing his cultural heritage. Through his extensive involvement with Juntos and ISLA NC, he made it his mission to empower the youth, overcome social barriers, facilitate resource accessibility, and provide student mentorship. Erik currently serves as a Bilingual Program Assistant for Juntos, where he visits different schools and countries to share his personal experience and opportunities. He is involved in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE), a member of the TRIO Program, and is a brother of Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, Inc. Erik’s determination to create impactful change for the Latinx community and empower others led him to apply for the fellowship. His professional goal is to work as a software engineer and potentially attend graduate school. In addition, his personal goal is to create an enduring cycle of support for the Latinx community.
