Debora Saavedra-Winch is a doctoral student in Curriculum and Instruction at UNC Charlotte, specializing in Curriculum and Educational Development. She holds a Master’s in Latin American History from UNC Charlotte and has been deeply involved in teaching and research. Growing up in Panama, Debora has a profound understanding of intercultural education’s transformative potential. Her experiences fuel her passion for promoting cultural diversity and inclusion in education. As a Civics Educator for high school students, she has guided many in understanding their societal roles and agency. Debora's current research focuses on the use of intercultural education with diverse learners and how it can help educators understand their students' dual identities. She collaborates with Kuna teachers in Panama to bridge research and practice, aiming to improve intercultural education and create meaningful, inclusive learning experiences. Her commitment to fostering a sense of belonging and agency in education highlights her dedication to empowering diverse students.
