Brenna Peterson

Brenna is a macro social work intern at LatinxEd as she completes her second and final year in the Master of Social Work program at UNC Chapel Hill. Originally from New England, she has been enjoying living in North Carolina for the past year and getting to find community in the Triangle. She completed her undergraduate degree at Gordon College in Massachusetts in 2021 with a double major in psychology and sociology, along with a concentration in counseling. During her time at Gordon, she also was a leader of the women’s lacrosse team and worked part-time as a TA, mentor, and staff coordinator at the college’s fitness center Upon graduating from college, she went on to work as a case manager at an inpatient substance use treatment center near Boston. She worked closely with therapists who had their MSW degrees and who inspired her to go back to school to pursue an MSW degree as well. Through her experience working with patients and care teams, Brenna became even more passionate about improving societal structures so that they better serve everyone rather than only some of the population. She is now highly motivated to go into policy and advocacy work to promote equity, particularly in public education systems, which she sees as having great potential as being catalysts for change towards justice. In her free time, Brenna enjoys painting, drawing, socializing, staying active, and exploring the Triangle.
