Appalachian College Advising Corps College Advisor at McDowell High School

In May 2022, Brenda became the first in her family to graduate from a 4 year university after receiving a Bachelors of Science in Communication from Appalachian State University. During her time at App State, Brenda held a variety of leadership roles that lead her to work with the Latinx community on campus, as well as helping students from marginalized backgrounds transition into college life. Soon after graduating from App State, Brenda went on to become a College Adviser with the Appalachian College Advising Corps, where she is currently set to start her second year at McDowell High School. As a college adviser, Brenda supports high school seniors, primarily those considered first-generation and underrepresented, as they navigate and plan for post-secondary opportunities.
