Communications Instructor at Wayne Community College
Andrea Freile was born in Ecuador, a country where indigenous and European traditions meet. These foundations inspired her love of art, nature, education, and community engagement. After becoming a citizen of the United States, she worked for the Department of Defense as a civilian Recruiter Lead at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). Being a part of NAVAIR enhanced her value of teamwork, recruitment, and the purpose of a mission for an organization. As a coordinator for the Scholars of Global Distinction program and communication instructor at Wayne Community College, Freile uses a holistic approach to honor the diverse cultures in her classroom and teach students to advocate for themselves and each other. Local and state partners are drawn toward her collaborative leadership style. As a local leader, Freile has served in the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Wayne Program, on the Paramount Theatre Community Engagement Committee, as Arts Council of Wayne County President, and has recently accepted a position on the United Way of Wayne County Board. She has also been named a Rising Star by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, a title given to only the people recognized as Wayne County’s most influential new leaders. At the state level, she serves on the UNC World View Council of Advisors, and has recently been asked to join their steering committee.
