Ana Ramirez Calderon is a Spark Fellow in Duke University’s Office of Undergraduate Education in Durham, NC. She leads the Sophomore Spark initiative, a series of coordinated programs, experiences, and resources designed to ignite sophomore students’ personal, professional, and intellectual growth. Prior to becoming a Spark Fellow, Ana was the associate in research at the Hart Leadership Program in the Sanford School of Public Policy, where she worked to strengthen Hart’s community and civic based engagements. Ana earned her B.A. in Environmental Science & Policy and Religious Studies from Duke University. During her undergraduate career, Ana was a Rubenstein Merit Scholar and a Mellon Mays Research Fellow. She also co-founded Duke Define America, an immigrant student advocacy group, and was co-president of Mi Gente, Duke’s Latinx Student Association. Originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador, Ana immigrated to the United States with her family in 2001 and has called Hollywood, Florida her hometown ever since. In her free time, Ana loves to read, host game night with friends, and snuggle with her cats.
