Alexa (Lexi) Tinajero, 17, is the oldest sister and a first-generation Latina at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics. While Alexa attends school in Durham, she lives in Goldsboro, NC. Alexa is passionate about serving and helping her community. With unwavering determination, she embraced community service projects in school, her local community, and various clubs. Alexa has been honored to serve as an officer in different organizations, such as 4-H Wayne County President, DECA President, School Ambassador, Cotillion Marshal, Robotics Club Officer, and Goldsboro’s Youth Council. Additionally, Alexa excels in sports, being an avid member of her school’s swim team, and loves to play tennis. Alexa will take part in a mentorship program at UNC and has found a passion for learning about cancers triggered by Kaposi Sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV). Alexa aspires to be a source of inspiration for young women interested in STEM fields. Furthermore, Alexa served as an officer of NCSSM’s Latiné Student Union, an experience that has ignited her interest in applying for and joining the LatinxEd Fellowship. By becoming a LatinxEd Fellow, Alexa envisions empowering and ensuring the preservation and celebration of Latinidad for the current generation and generations to come.
