LatinxEd Listening Tour

We believe that those closest to the problem are closest to the solution. It’s because of this that LatinxEd is excited to be leading a Statewide Listening Tour! We’ll be traveling your way to sit down with you and other community members to learn about the educational challenges and dreams y’all have for our Latinx families. To accomplish this, we need your support! Keep reading to learn how to help.

Listening Tour Objectives

Identify opportunities and barriers to equitable education for Latinx families and students in North Carolina.

Connect with educators and community leaders serving and advocating for our Latinx families.

Engage with Latinx families to learn about their lived experiences in the education system and amplify their stories.

To accomplish our Listening Tour objectives, our team will facilitate:

      • 1-on-1 conversations with community leaders who are advocating for Latinx families and taking action to reach educational equity.
      • Focus groups with educators, Latinx parents, and Latinx students to learn more about the opportunities and barriers to equitable education for the Latinx community.

As this listening tour is spanning across a two-year timeline, we are strategically mapping out our tour to touch every region in North Carolina. In 2021, we will be in the following regions: Western, Northwest, Piedmont Triad, North Central Region. In 2022, we will be in the Southwest, South Central, Southeast, and Northeast Regions.

Volunteering Opportunity

LatinxEd is inviting community members, in the counties listed below, to volunteer with us. Our Listening Tour volunteers will serve as liaisons between our work and their communities. Volunteers will have the opportunity to connect us with community members, share their advocacy and work experience, participate in a focus group or provide additional support to our team. To take advantage of this volunteering opportunity, please schedule a meeting with me by clicking on the link corresponding to your county of work!

    FAQs

As this is a 6-month fellowship, how many hours per week are required?
During the summer, you can expect to contribute 8 hours for a 6 week period. These 8 hours are not exclusively for meeting time, but should also be used to review materials, read articles, write reflections, etc. During August – December 2021, the time commitment will look like 8-10 hours per month.

If you would like to nominate a candidate for consideration, please contact me at mirella@latinxed.org. I’m also happy to help if you have any questions or need additional time to fill out the application. Schedule a brief meeting with me here!
